1331 films submitted for the 40th Edition

In the year CINANIMA marks its 40th anniversary, it receives the submission of 1331 films (an all time record) from 72 countries. This is a fact that we register with much pleasure and satisfaction given the significant increase when compared to 2015 (1237 films / 61 countries).

The largest number of films comes from the USA (143 films), followed by France (119 films) and Germany (81 films). Through 40th editions, many and different countries sent their films, and as usual, there are always some to point out, not because of the number of films, but for doing that for the first time, such as Georgia, Mali, Monaco, Myanmar or East Timor.

From the received films, 350 belong to the category Graduation Films and/ or School Films, 38 were entered in the new category presented in this 40th edition – Animation Documentary – and 15 participate in the category Feature Film. The Portuguese production is still rampant, registering the submission of 68 films, 24 of which compete for the Antonio Gaio Award – Best Portuguese Film in the National Competition.

The celebration of CINANIMA’s 40th anniversary will certainly be a defining moment in the panorama of national and international animation film, not only for the absolute record of films sent for Selection, but also for the presence (already confirmed) of notable filmmakers, producers and distributors and the promising and interesting proposals that the Festival has to offer, from the 7th to the 13th November in Espinho.
