130 films will compete in CINANIMA 2023!

After viewing more than 3,700 films, from 123 countries, the Selection Jury chose a total of 130 works, establishing a new record of films and countries presented in competition. 98 works from 33 different nations will be included in the international competition, with France (13), the United Kingdom (8), and Israel (7), having the highest number of films chosen. In this competition, 22 hours’ worth of animated films will be shown. 57 films have been selected for the International Short Film Competition. There are 6 films in the International Feature Film Competition. There are 35 films in the International Student Competition.

The António Gaio Award and the Young Portuguese Filmmaker Award (which is divided into films made by children under 18 years of age and first films made by youngsters aged between 18 and 30), will present 32 films as part of the National Competition. This is an increase if we compare it to the 31 works screened in 2022 and it represents around four hours of Portuguese production. There are 13 films in competition for the António Gaio Award. In the awards dedicated to the youngest, there are 9 films in the Young Portuguese Director Award  (Young people between 18 and 30 years old) and 10 films competing for the Young Portuguese Director Award (Children and young people up to 18 years old).
