The 41st Edition of CINANIMA – International Animated Film Festival of Espinho received the submission of 1338 films (an all-time record) from 67 countries. The largest number of films comes from the USA (167 films), followed by France (159 films) and United Kingdom (102 films). Portugal presented a remarkable number of submissions in a total of 60 films, 20 of which compete for the António Gaio Award – best Portuguese Film in the National Competition.
CINANIMA 2017 presents three International Competitions: Short Films, School and/ or Graduation Films and Feature Films. The category with the largest number of films is Short Films More than 5 up to 24 minutes with 424 films, followed by Short Films Up to 5 minutes with 347 entries. In the Category Short Films Commissioned Films we have registered the submission of 61 films, which is a noticeable increase in comparison to the 38 films submitted in 2016. Twenty three films have been submitted in the category Short Films Animated Documentary and 18 films have been entered in the category Short Films More than 24 to 50 minutes. As to the International Feature Films Competition, 21 films have been entered. In the International Competition for School and/ or Graduation Films an impressive number of 416 works have been entered.
The preselection process which began three months ago, will culminate in the final selection of films that will take part in the competitive section of the Festival, which will take place from the 24th and the 27th of August 2017. CINANIMA 2017 will be held from the 6th to the 12th of November in Espinho, Portugal.
