The young director João Gonzalez will premiere his most recent film – “Ice Merchants” – at Cannes Film Festival.
The film is selected for the competitive section (a section of the Cannes Festival that completes this year its 61st edition and will take place between May 17th and 28th.
After the award-winning “Nestor” (António Gaio Award CINANIMA 2019) and “The Voyager” Young Portuguese Director Award CINANIMA 2018), “Ice Merchants” is João Gonzalez’s third film and his first as a professional director

Besides being director, art director and animator (with the collaboration of the Polish animator Ala Nunu in this film), João Gonzalez is also the instrumentalist and composer of the soundtrack, with the participation of Nuno Lobo in orchestration and a group of musicians from ESMAE. The soundtrack is by Ed Trousseau, with recording and mixing by Ricardo Real and Joana Rodrigues. A Portuguese, Polish, French and English team worked on the animation colouring of the film.
A co-production between Portugal (Bruno Caetano at Cola – Coletivo Audiovisual), France (Michaël Proença from Wild Stream) and England (Royal College of Art), the film is distributed by the Portuguese Short Film Agency and counted with the support of ICA – Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual.
