The deadline for submitting films to CINANIMA International Animated Film Festival - is finished, so it’s time to reveal that around 1400 films from 72 countries have been submitted and will be screened and selected by the Festival's programming team and by the following juries: Short Film Selection Jury; Student Film Selection Jury; Feature Film Selection Jury and Portuguese Films Selection Jury.
Another Festival, another top three countries with films in selection: as usual, France leads with 196 films; followed by the United Kingdom with 120 - a country also with strong production. However the news comes with the 96 works from Brazil. It’s a great deal the rising of Brazilian animation, which appears in third place, in a position usually occupied by the USA or Russia.
Note that the category with the most films - 461 - is the Student Films. The notoriety and visibility that CINANIMA offers to the Grand Prix winner, automatically joining the list of Oscar nominees, seems to remain unnoticed by young directors trying their luck at the third oldest festival in the world.
Over 43 years, ten thousands of films have come to the Festival from all over the world. In 2019, CINANIMA receives, for the first time, a work from Mauritius, one from Oman and anothere from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Regarding the National Competition, of which CINANIMA is particularly proud of, in its undeniable role as a pioneer in the promotion of the independente animated films, the Festival receives in 2019, about 60 works.
CINANIMA will take place from the 11th until the 17th November in Espinho.
