They are already known the names that make up the jury of the international competition of the 40th edition of CINANIMA. The Portuguese Regina Pessoa chairs the judging team from international competition for short films. After winning the Youth Award Filmmaker in CINANIMA in 1999, the director has built a remarkable journey in the world of international animated film, with exponent in the Short Film multi awarded “Tragic Story with Happy Ending” and her presence every year since then at the festival is essential and something to be of proud of.
The team that will choose the winning film in the international competition of short films also includes Peter Lord’s experience, British director, co-founder of Aardman Animations, known for the television series “The Sheep Shaun” or the feature film “Chicken Run”; and American Ron Diamond, founder of ACME Filmworks studio (whence works of authors such as Paul Driessen, Carolin Leaf, Michael Dudok de Witt, Bill Plympton, among many other important names in animation), and also producer of a few episodes for the series “The Simpsons”.
As for the international competition of feature films, the panel of judges is constituted by Jossie Malis, illustrator, animator and director of Peruvian and Chilean origin whose most recognized work is the short film “Blessed Machine”. In this edition, Malis is also responsible for the guidance of a master class in the School of Arts and Design of Matosinhos (ESAD).
By his side will be Michelle Ann Nardone, Director of the Department of Animation and CG, The Animation Workshop, whose program will be screened at Porto, Aveiro, Trás-os-Montes and Coimbra universities in this edition of CINANIMA’s special pre-festival sessions; and Steve Sarson whose career is dedicated to teaching and developing courses and learning techniques, and is actually director of the Department of Design of School of Media Arts and Design, Polytechnic of Porto.
40 years of CINANIMA – International Animation Film Festival of Espinho will take place from the 7th to the 13th of November.
