Romanian animation wins CINANIMA’s 41st edition

The film by Negulici Sergiu is the winner of CINANIMA – International Animated Film Festival. “The Blissful Accidental Death” won the Grand Award CINANIMA 2017 – City of Espinho Award.
The short-film “After All”, by Michael Cusack (Australia) won the Jury’s Special Award. This is the story of a man who cleans out his childhood home, remembering past conversations.
The short-film “Husband and Wife. A Voitan Story”, by Mait Laas (Estonia) won the Award Alves Costa, for the best film up to 5 minutes. It was given a Special Mention to the film “Alternative Walk”, by the Russian Ivan Maximov.

The animation by the Belgian Britt Raes won the Award for the Best Film More than 5 up to 24 minutes. “Catherine” is about a girl who can’t connect with other people so she develops a special relationship with her cat. There were also given three Honorable Mentions to “Surprise”, by Paulo Patrício (Portugal), to “Drop by Drop”, by Laura Gonçalves and Xá (Portugal) and to “Skin for Skin” by Carol Beecher e Kevin Kurytnik (Canadá).
The Gaston Roch Award – Award for the Best Graduation/School film was given to “Oh Mother!” by Paulina Ziolkowska (Poland). This film is about the relationship between a son and a mother, who are constantly changing places and roles.
“Ethel & Ernest”, by Roger Mainwood, is the winner Feature Film. This story comes from United Kingdom and it’s about two ordinary Londoners living through a period of extraordinary events and immense social change. The film is based on a book with the same title as the film, from 1998. This film is also the winner of the Audience Award, given by the audience.
“Yellow Rose” wins the Award for the best Commissioned Film commercials and information. The Australian Xin Li surprise us with a simple narrative about a feather that carries a girl’s wish to her future self.
“Drop by Drop” is the winner of António Gaio Award, by Laura Gonçalves and Xá. It is considered the best film in the National Competition, in CINANIMA’S 41st anniversary. The Honorable Mention was given to the film “Surprise”, by Paulo Patrício.
“A Wolf Coming from Spain” by Colectivo de Jovens das Oficinas da Anilupa da Associação de Ludotecas do Porto, Alunos do 8º ano da EB de Sendim was the winner of the Young Portuguese Director Award: Under 18 Years Old. The Honorable Mention was given to “Strange Birds” by Colectivo Voc B3 da EB Lousada Este – Caíde de Rei.

The Young Portuguese Director Award: over 18 years old was given to two films in exaequo: “The Voyage” by João Monteiro, Luís Vital and Ricardo Livramento; “Undercat” by Sara Marques and André Matos.
