CINANIMA 2020 with Strong and Updated Themes

From the 1st to the 9th September, the headquarters of Nascente – Cooperativa de Ação Cultural, CRL (organizing member of CINANIMA, in partnership with the City Hall of Espinho) has received the members of the Selection Jury for another stage of the 44th Edition of the Festival. 1100 works were submitted, of which 68 will be in the international competition, according to the decision of the jury, composed by Regina Machado (president of Casa da Animação), Jorge Campos (professor and film director) and Paulo Barrosa (responsible for the Selection and Programming of CINANIMA 2020).

It is anticipated, and as usual, that the competitive component of the Festival will have the quality that has always guided it throughout the more than four dozen editions, this year with special emphasis on Student Films, which present interesting and appealing aesthetic standards.

Over the last few years, there has been an increasing use of stop motion, and 2020 is no exception, being strongly marked by the use of this technique, although many others are also present. It is fair to see the artistic and production investment that the directors put into their projects.

The feature films surprise with a political theme, updated and of great relevance, so we advise you not to miss these screenings. There are four works in competition that address topics as diverse as sexual violence in the context of war, the courage of those who dare to speak in oppressive and dictatorial regimes, religious persecutions, conflict and the war environment in its rawest state.

In the 44th Edition of CINANIMA 68 films will be screened in the international competition and 29 in the national competition, summing up 97 films in competition. See the list of the selected films at: www.cinanima.pt. Save the date: CINANIMA will take place from the 9th to the 15th November, in Espinho.
